Valeriya Khan is a Kazakhstani Koryo-Saram cinematographer based in Vancouver, BC. In her practice she values collaborations and nurtures connections established over the course of production. She wants to explore stories through human experiences and is most excited about the creative process of pre-production. After completing her BFA in film production from Simon Fraser University, she has been working on sets in lighting and camera departments to gain different experiences, while shooting various projects with her close collaborators. She is interested in shooting on film and had an opportunity to DP a 2 minute short titled ‘Halmeoni’ which resonated with an audience of over 2 million people on various social platforms. Her works have been shown at various festivals including VAFF, Montreal Festival du Nouveau Cinema, Reelworld, Whistler, NFFTY, and more.
In her spare time she enjoys binging Mubi collections alternating with reality TV cooking competitions and cares for her single plant Mikhail.
